		<description>Sara
Leghissa
[ITA]

 Ha co-fondato il&#38;nbsp;collettivo Strasse, un progetto di creazioni site-specific che lavora con i codici della performance e del cinema per mettere in discussione e intensificare il nostro rapporto con la realtà.&#38;nbsp;

Con la casa editrice NERO ha pubblicato i libri Will you marry me? e La scuola ha riaperto come dopo una nevicata.

Ha presentato il proprio lavoro artistico in diversi festival di arti performative, gallerie d’arte e spazi pubblici come Santarcangelo Festival (IT), Short Theatre (IT), Triennale Teatro Dell’Arte (IT), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (IT), Museo Macro (IT), far Festival (CH), Sareyett (PS), La Casa Encendida (E), Festival Parallèle (FR), Saal Biennal (EE), Mir Festival (GR), Beursschouwburg e Kunstencentrum Vooruit (BE), Malta Bienniale Art (MT).

[ENG]

Sara Leghissa is an independent artist based in Italy whose work embraces performing, making and curation and whose research arises from a need of connection and transformation with contexts and people.

Their artistic practice takes place mainly in public spaces, exploring power dynamics within them. Through a principle of ecology of resources, they use as much as possible of what is already available outdoor in the space. They create systems and devices that try to be mimetic with the context in which they occur for intercepting different audiences, using accessible technologies linked to the ordinary to convey images and contents.

In their artistic practice, they are inspired by the concept of “queer vandalism,” described by Sara Ahmed as a principle that “those who act anomalously with respect to the norm are read as vandals and consequently can use and reclaim vandalistic action as a voluntary practice to disfigure and reconfigure the norm.”

In the last few years Sara Leghissa developed a body of works rooted around the notion of “wild posting”, a practice used to communicate social, political and cultural messages in urban environments through legal and illegal billposting. They use posters to disseminate political messages in the public space that reflect on processes of invisibilization and the politics of exclusion of vulnerable communities and groups: these messages are either taken from queer-literature references or collected through interview sessions with communities around the world. The artist formalizes their work in various ways: they billboard around the city, with or without permission; they design books whose pages can also be used as posters; or they organize performance lectures where the act of gluing posters on the wall becomes a form of material slide show. Everytime the texts are fragmented and revisited in an act of artistic editing. Sara Leghissa wild posting’s body of works proposes a form of public literature that breaks the exposition and resolution of progressive narratives: each poster constitutes a solitary element that subvert formalism and conduct to unresolved plots of visual inquiry.

Their curation practice hinges on being an independent artist.&#38;nbsp;They explore the dynamics of living and acting together with communities of people, to share temporality and practices, independently, horizontaly and outside the logic of production, through principles of mutalism, care, training and collective self-determination.

 They co-organizes for the Italian scene Nobodys Indiscipline, an international and independent platform for the exchange of practices in the Performing Art; NESSUNO, a public gathering for a community of people who, during the night, reclaim and celebrate the energy of bodies and their differences; Sauna Never Dry, a shared wooden room containing the equipment to obtain dry air at a high temperature, which becomes an expedient for encountering and constructing queer and decolonial practices.
They co-founded the&#38;nbsp;Strasse collective, a site-specific creation project that works within the frames of performance and cinema, to question and intensify our relationship to reality.

With the publishing house NERO, they published the books Will you marry me? and The school reopened as after a snowfall.

They have presented their artistic work in various contexts, such as Santarcangelo Festival (IT), Short Theatre (IT), Triennale Teatro Dell’Arte (IT), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (IT), Museo Macro (IT), far Festival (CH), Sareyett (PS), La Casa Encendida (E), Festival Parallèle (FR), Saal Biennal (EE), Mir Festival (GR), Beursschouwburg e Kunstencentrum Vooruit (BE), Malta Biennial Art (MT).

Superliquidator

A project by Sara Leghissa in conversation with Vita Ferrara, based on the texts Difendersi (Defend Yourself) by Elsa Dorlin, Fandango, 2020; A Short History of Trans Misogyny by Jules Gill-Peterson, Verso, 2024; and the Self-Defense Archive, curated by Federica Iannuzzi and Marta Veronese. Some of the content is taken from conversations with trans women, non-binary people and cis women, met between Essen and Madrid, starting with questions about the perception of one's body in public spaces. Other content is taken from a survey conducted with migrants staying at Casa Don Gallo in Rimini, an organization created in response to the housing emergency.&#38;nbsp;
Still other content is the result of our conversations.
SUPERLIQUIDATOR is produced and hosted by Beniamino Marini and created in collaboration with Cormio, who proposed a series of DIY self-defense accessories, a format that can be reproduced by anyone, in response to and as a complement to the artistic project. Produced for public spaces by Fondazione Lazzaretto.

Superliquidator is a self-defense device based on muscle rather than law.Superliquidator is composed of signs, fluids, accessories, garments, artifacts, knowledge, and practices that alter power and bestow power. It is a restorative tonic extracted from the cracks of all those bodies that are not allowed to become subjects. Its high-tech jets allow us to move, independently and collectively, &#38;nbsp;from the production of a subjugated self to a resistant subjectivation.Warning: Superliquidator may induce self-defense movements.

ENG
When Fondazione Lazzaretto invited me to create a poster for public display in the Porta Venezia area (Milano), I expressed my desire to work on self-defense. The area is increasingly subject to transphobic and racist attacks, especially since the election of the Meloni government, which legitimizes all forms of racism and fascism and represses those who protest. There have been several demonstrations in the neighborhood, including queer, trans, anti-racist, and anti-fascist marches, organized by the network&#38;nbsp;Liber_ di Transitare Tra Generi e Confini (Transiting Between Genders and Borders) to respond to this violence. I asked Vita Ferrara, a friend and activist who lives the neighborhood and is a militant member of this network, to work with me on some content based on Elsa Dorlin's book Difendersi (Defend Yourself) and on the theme of self-defense. Elsa builds her narrative around the question, “Which bodies have the right to defend themselves?” According to her analysis, on which we based our writing, Western institutions attribute legitimate defense to those bodies that represent cis-heteropatriarchal power and white supremacy, while all other bodies, oppressed minorities, have no right to defend themselves. As Vita Ferrara writes in a text translated and adapted by Elsa Dorlin, Difendersi (Defending Oneself), Fandango, 2020, and Jules Gill-Peterson, A Short History of Trans Misogyny, Verso, 2024: "It is not just a matter of directly hindering the actions of minorities, it is a matter of leading certain individuals to destroy themselves as individuals, of exciting their power to act in order to better push them towards self-destruction. Tracing this mechanism, particularly in colonial situations, reveals an imperial economy of violence that defends individuals who have always been legitimized to defend themselves. This economy maintains the legitimacy of certain individuals to use physical force, gives them the power of self-preservation and self-justice, and grants them permission to kill." The desire we express here is to reclaim our lives through our practices of self-defense, and not through the institutions that oppress us.

“ TheTirreno had broken the news last April 5: the Tuscan port of Livorno is the transit pointfor large quantities of U.S. military equipment, particularly wheeled vehicles and containers” The Weapon Watch, Research Centre on Weapons in European and Mediterranean Ports
Our ports are central hubs for enabling the distribution and transportation of weapons andensuring the maintenance and development of the war industry.
The Groppo Autonomo Portuali Livorno, a group of dockworkers who organizedautonomously last year following the passage of a shipment of arms in the port of Livornobound for the U.S., is carrying out practices to block and fight against arms trafficking incivilian ports, advancing the case for ports closed to arms and open to migrants.
While the art workers in the cultural system are forced to operate in increasinglyprecarious conditions, are increasingly exploitable and blackmail, the funding for culture isincreasingly tied to those who support and feed the global war regime. The diminishinginvestment in culture (art, education, information) and the investment in the war industryare deeply intrinsic. The artists worker assembly Galassia antisionist is denouncing this system.
As denounced by Young Palestinians: “The genocide in Palestine and the war policy of “Israel” is supported by a war economy that also starts from our territories. European portsare strategic hubs for the transportation of weapons and war materials. Some port workersare organizing against this war mechanism. Disarm and boycott the ports of war.”&#60;img width="1600" height="1058" width_o="1600" height_o="1058" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/664230b1f0d37323a7e7bf9ea34dd0dd8d638b14c7ecf6ecf90688781f0b37cc/IMG_3072.JPG" data-mid="236339055" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/664230b1f0d37323a7e7bf9ea34dd0dd8d638b14c7ecf6ecf90688781f0b37cc/IMG_3072.JPG" /&#62;

Serenata Lesbica&#38;nbsp;
A collaboration between Taquitojocoque and Sara Leghissa
Graphic design Marzia Dalfini,

&#60;img width="1170" height="1224" width_o="1170" height_o="1224" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/8f45716f2a44dd5920ba189f4819dfa1f8c2ff7da7b6afa4e6fe92e63bf012ae/PHOTO-2025-04-26-04-32-32-6.jpg" data-mid="232889838" border="0" data-scale="97" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/8f45716f2a44dd5920ba189f4819dfa1f8c2ff7da7b6afa4e6fe92e63bf012ae/PHOTO-2025-04-26-04-32-32-6.jpg" /&#62;

&#60;img width="4936" height="3380" width_o="4936" height_o="3380" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/8972f4390972b77dc437ec5acc7a6c20da508c7cb981b07e9eaaeb1a4cddd949/PIC06904.jpg" data-mid="241380750" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/8972f4390972b77dc437ec5acc7a6c20da508c7cb981b07e9eaaeb1a4cddd949/PIC06904.jpg" /&#62;
“Serenata Lesbica” is, in every sense, a serenade, brought to life by blending the artistic styles of Taquitojocoque and Sara Leghissa. Through the deconstruction and reconstruction of song lyrics and musical scores from the Mexican and Chilean folk and contemporary traditions—which Roxana sent to Sara after their meeting in Mexico City in October 2024—this public call becomes a collective moment, in which the lyrics of the songs come together to form a message that encourages anti-racist lesbianism. Step by step, the Serenade takes shape, drawing on the presence of bodies to build a collective political and romantic dimension.

“Journalism has irrevocably changed. It has connected Palestine to every cause of exploitation, of every imperialistic brutality, of every unnecessary elite driven pain that we have.” Afeef Nessouli, Lebanese journalist

“Quiero hablar del buen periodismo”is a site specific public lecture that reorganizes in the form of a public manifesto a video message posted on the social media by the&#38;nbsp; Lebanese journalist Afeef Nessouli, “I want to talk about good journalism”.
During a year of genocide, social media has become a tool for conveying, archiving, and accessing news and voices that are not being told by Western mainstream journalism. As the Lebanese journalist&#38;nbsp; says in: “Journalism has irrevocably changed. It has connected Palestine to every cause of exploitation, of every imperialistic brutality, of every unnecessary elite driven pain that we have. Even though we haven't yet freed Palestine, Palestine has begun to free us.”&#38;nbsp;
I specifically prepared the lecture as I’ve been invited to do a posting action for the press conference for the opening of the Universidad Autonoma Metropolita shelter. The shelter is part of the Fronteras project adn part of the UAM-ICORN Strategy of CDMX. Since its founding, it has shelterd more than 350 at-risk writers, artists and journalists.

Fuck your rainbow flag

“And I say this without hyperbole, in the arab world there is probably no greater impediment at the moment to queer liberation than imperialism” Hamed Sinno"If the Zionist entity claims to be the protector of democratic values in the battle for Western civilization, we reject this civilization. We are not interested in defending this nation-state model based on capitalism, exploitation of bodies and people. We are not interested in a homo-lesbian-bi-transphobic, fatphobic and ableist state. We do not accept our identities being used as a weapon to justify oppression in Palestine.
There is no queer liberation under occupation. None is free until we are all free.
There is no liberation until Palestine is free, from the river to the sea"

While the mass media constructs a narrative aimed at the maintenance of white supremacism heteropatriarchy, content that takes a stand to deconstruct the Western imperialist narrative and claim practices of resistance against systemic oppression is being conveyed through social media, through the voices and direct experiences of public figures, activists and journalists. How can we amplify some of this content, which we enjoy solitarily when we scroll Instagram?

“Fuck your rainbow flag” quotes the final part of the video that Hamed Sinno posted on Ig on November 14, 2023. In the video, the composer and former singer of Beirut-based Mashrou’ Leila share their thoughts on what it means to live and engage with activism for the freedom and visibility of queer people in Arab countries, and criticize how struggles for self-determination are appropriated and instrumentalized by imperialist powers to proceed their own mission, the resumption of the colonial project.

Sempre qua siamo[Fake Uniforms]

Retrofuturo.

It's getting closer to us. I hope it ends soon”.
