While the mass media constructs a narrative aimed at the maintenance of white supremacism and heteropatriarchy, content that takes a stand to deconstruct the Western imperialist narrative and claim practices of resistance against systemic oppression is being conveyed through social media, through the voices and direct experiences of public figures, activists and journalists. How can we amplify some of this content, which we enjoy solitarily when we scroll Instagram?
We selected excerpts from some videos and, through a calligraphic practice, thanks to the collaboration with Andrea Delliquatri, we transcribed them on posters that you see on display at Serre Dei Giardini.
References to the autor, Hamed Sinno, Bisan Owda, Saul Williams, Subhi صبح and Valencia Maqueen, were made explicit and then erased, to allow audiences to reconstruct their meaning, with respect to the context in which they are inscribed.
The title “Fuck your rainbow flag” quotes the final part of the video that Hamed Sinno posted on Ig on November 14, 2023. In the video, the composer takes a stand with respect to what it means to live and do activism for the freedom and visibility of queer people in Arab countries, and opens questions with respect to how struggles for self-determination are often instrumentalized by imperialist powers for the maintenance of the white supremacy. They make us reflect on the fact that there is probably no greater obstacle to queer liberationism than colonialism at the moment.

“Quiero hablar del buen periodismo”

[Site specific Public Lecture_CDMX]

“Quiero hablar del buen periodismo” is a site specific public lecture that reorganizes in the form of a public manifesto a video message posted on the social media by the  Lebanese journalist Afeef Nessouli, “I want to talk about good journalism”.

During a year of genocide, social media has become a tool for conveying, archiving, and accessing news and voices that are not being told by Western mainstream journalism. As the Lebanese journalist  says in: “Journalism has irrevocably changed. It has connected Palestine to every cause of exploitation, of every imperialistic brutality, of every unnecessary elite driven pain that we have. Even though we haven't yet freed Palestine, Palestine has begun to free us.”

I specifically prepared the lecture as I’ve been invited to do a posting action for the press conference for the opening of the Universidad Autonoma Metropolita shelter. The shelter is part of the Fronteras project adn part of the UAM-ICORN Strategy of CDMX.
Since its founding, it has shelterd more than 350 at-risk writers, artists and journalists.
